PERSONAL PROJECT WORLD OF THYR

CREATING A WORLD

    Thyr is a Medieval Fantasy world designed by myself on my free time. With the goal to create a saga for RPg or novels, the design of this world allows me tried some skills learned during my professionnal time as designing a personnal RPG system, creating levels and environements, learning how to draw some concepts arts or even writing to free my mind. This project is a long one, with multiple entires and details.

    In World of Thyr, the story is divided in two eras, the first one, is played by players with the RPG system. the second one, is the novel part that I tried to build gradually.

    Thyr is a fantasy world inspired by Middle Earth and Westeros. Its cosmogony is legendary, with heroes and evil figures, and the more we go forward in time, the more we get closer to dark and pragmatic times, leaving men to themselves. There are many themes, all represented by characters thought to illustrate them. The symbolism of death, and the notion of immortality, the loss of sight of the lines between Good and Evil, or the notion of believing in what used to be are strong themes that I wanted to transcribe.

MY WORK

For several years now I have been working on this universe which is for me a playground for experimentation. My goal has always been to build this universe in a professional way and to bring my learnings to go towards this goal.

My work has been first of all the complete building of the world. Beginning with the design of characters that convey ideals, vices and values and that come to interact in a fantasy world to gradually "zoom out" and contribute to their story by creating the History of the world necessary to the depth of the characters.

In order to experiment with this lore and to train myself in game design, I had the idea to design my own RPG system and to play it, exploring new eras, and new characters.

  • World-building: Creating the rules, systems, and lore of the universe. Thinking the original cosmogony, the rituels, the rules of the societies, and lot of stories and beliefs that make the world deeper. This includes things like geography, history, culture, and politics.
  • Character design: Creating compelling and dynamic characters to illustrate the messages I wanted to share. I developped their backgrounds, personalities, motivations, and arcs. The main characters are princes brothers and sisters trying to live their lives after the death of their dad, the king.
  • Research : Document and make numerous researches of artistic, literary, and historical inspirations in order to sort out and deepen the generic information proper to a universe of Medieval Fantasy. I synthesized information from a variety of sources to create a rich and believable world.
  • Dialogue writing: The writing of the story and its dialogues are at the heart of the setting on paper of the Worlds of Thyr. A universe of politics and betrayal, where words hurt as much as blades. The way the words are used is quite varied, ranging from songs to real life lessons. The inspirations notably of Tolkien or Druon are quite present.
  • Map making: Creating a map of my world helped me to design and understand better where my heroes will go. I designed and illustrate an accurate and detailed map that reflects the geography, climate, and culture of Thyr.

FACT:

Thyr is a world that I started to design during my Highschool, inspired by my friends and how we looks like in a medieval fantasy world. The world evolved to a true universe and a deeper and darker world, always inspired by peoples I know.

  • Animate the DM sessions and collect feedback to balance the game, and allow the best experience
  • Writing all character creation document and the character creation system for many cultures, classes and weapons
  • Co-management of design brainstorming and co-working workshops with other game designers and players
  • Definition of design rationals of the RPG to keep the vision of the intention
  • Creation of levels, and conception of narrative storylines for the player experience. Working on multiples maps using Talsepire to illustrate the story and making the Levels reals.
